John Marshall Clemens and Jane Lampton Clemens, the parents of Samuel, move several times when Clemens was young. First, to Hannibal, Missouri four short days after Samuel was born and later moved from Kentucky to Tennessee and from Tennessee back to Missouri (Jones 263).
