And the ability to overcome adversity are completely words that can describe Earvin Johnson Jr. Earvin was born on August 14, 1959 in Lansing, Michigan, one of seven children. His father Earvin would last during the day at a factory and at wickedness he worked as a garbage man. His mother, Christine, was a check custodian. Earvin Jr. had many jobs, some of which he helped his father, but he had a talent and love for the game of basketball. Johnson went to Everett High condition and won a state relief in 1977. Earvins flashy passes and superior ball handling to everyone else gave him the nickname Magic. He then attended Michigan State University. In only his second year, Johnson brought a national college basketball championship to Michigan State by defeating Indiana State, who was led by the future NBA Hall of Famer, Larry Bird.
Johnson was drafted overall primary, in the 1979 NBA draft by the Los Angeles Lakers. Johnson had an incredible sonny season and become the first rookie to start in the NBA All-Star Game. He then brought his team to the playoffs, and defeated the Philadelphia 76ers for the NBA Championship, adding another accomplishment; the youngest player ever to win a playoffs MVP ( Most Valuable Player ).
Johnson listed at six-spot foot nine, played point guard, which is usually a piazza reserved for smaller players. Giving him the title of one of the first taller players to play that position. He was now the the talk around the world.
