Bilingual Education

In the book, Hunger of a Memory by Richard Rodriguez, he depicts how bilingual bringing up in America does not inescapably discombobulate a positive effect on a childs education. He feels children should learn in the the language of the kingdom in which they live in, not the country from which they or their families maintain come from. Rodriguez says that children will occupy a difficult clock differentiating between multiple languages and the situations in which they be used. The book expound a very personal struggle with language development, and how universe forced to learn in and only speak slope enabled him to have great success. While Mr. Rodriguez does have an inspiring story, I do feel that he is an anomaly. In the first chapter he talks about the wonderful family time conversations they share at home. His parents actively listening and responding to everything their children have to say. This all changes when a interpretive program from the school requests that the family only use incline to speak at home. The home becomes silent, the children no longer interact with their parents verbally, but sort of to peers. They lost that close family connection they once had, and the result could have been very negative.

I personally feel that bilingual education has a proven very positive effect on a childs education. I imagine being in a different country at age volt and being put into a school where everyone spoke and wrote in a language I had no understanding of. I would be scared and intimidated.
